Overview

The Message function is a core administrative module within the LOL Online Learning Platform. It allows administrators to publish various important announcements to students, including academic updates, system notifications, promotional messages, and event alerts. With flexible configuration options such as category classification, visibility scope, scheduled publishing, and custom URLs, this tool enhances institutional communication efficiency and real-time engagement.

Message Types

Messages can be categorized as follows:

  • General: Routine reminders or notifications, such as usage suggestions or administrative announcements.
  • Pinned: Always displayed at the top of the message list to increase visibility—ideal for long-term announcements.
  • Important: Time-sensitive and essential information, such as system disruptions or emergency alerts.
  • System: Technical updates related to the platform, such as scheduled maintenance or feature changes.
  • Academic: Directly related to course content, such as class rescheduling, makeup classes, or changes in instructors.

Configurable Fields

When publishing a message, administrators can configure the following fields:

  • Subject: Message title—should be concise and identifiable.
  • Category: One of the types listed above.
  • Content: Detailed message body including descriptions, reminders, and notices.
  • URL: Link to forms, educational resources, or external pages (optional).
  • Visibility Scope:
    • Public: Visible to all students.
    • By Class: Visible only to selected classes.
  • Status:
    • Enabled: Immediately active and visible to selected recipients.
    • Disabled: Temporarily hidden from students.
  • Publishing Period: Start and end date/time for message visibility; enables timed release and automatic expiration.

Operating Procedures

1. Add New Message

  1. Log into the platform and navigate to “Admin Panel > Message > Add”.
  2. Enter a subject, e.g., "Parent Orientation in May".
  3. Select a category (e.g., “Academic” or “Important”).
  4. Write the full message content including time, location, and key notes.
  5. (Optional) Enter a link URL if redirection is needed.
  6. Choose the visibility scope (Public or By Class).
  7. Set the message status to “Enabled”.
  8. Set the publishing start and end dates, or leave blank for an indefinite display.
  9. Click “Save” to complete the setup.

2. Edit Message

  1. Go to “Admin Panel > Message” and access the message list.
  2. Click the “Edit” icon next to the desired message.
  3. Modify relevant fields such as subject, content, scope, or schedule.
  4. Click “Save” to apply the changes.

3. Delete Message

  1. Select the message(s) to delete from the list.
  2. Click the “Delete” button. A confirmation prompt will appear.
  3. Confirm the deletion to permanently remove the message.

Q1: Why can’t students see the published message?

A: Check if the message is “Enabled”, whether the visibility scope is correctly set, and if it’s still within the valid publishing period.

Q2: How can I limit a message to specific classes only?

A: When adding or editing the message, set visibility to “By Class” and select the target classes.

Q3: Can messages be automatically removed after a certain date?

A: Yes. Set the end date in the publishing period to have the message automatically expire.

Q4: Can images or attachments be included in the message content?

A: Currently, only plain text and hyperlinks are supported. For files or images, upload them to cloud storage and include the shareable link.

Q5: Can I duplicate previous messages?

A: Yes. Copy and paste the content from an existing message and adjust it as needed to create a new one.


Notes

  • This feature is for admin use only—students cannot create or edit messages.
  • Ensure the correct category and scope are selected to avoid miscommunication or insufficient message coverage.
  • Messages will automatically disappear after the end of the publishing period; manual removal is not necessary.
